Worst photo of the bunch, but this great lady deserves a page to herself. I never again had a group voice teacher who could work us like Miss Alvaretta Murray could. Remember the All-high-school Glee Fests in . . . what was that airplane hanger we convened in? And remember "Cranberry Corners?" Lord, we brought the roof down with that one, we were so good! What else can you remember about those singing days? It was a high spot in high school for me, but my memory needs prodding. Space here for stories. Grateful thanks to Jo Lou Bohart-Bloomer for remembering that Miss Murray's first name was Alvaretta. =^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^=^="As to Ms. Murray, I will never forget her classes. Remember in 7th grade when she had a unit on ukulele for all of us. Because of her and Maybelle Stewart, we grew up knowing all the old songs from our country, songs like "Git Along Little Dogies" (begins with "..ridin Old Paint, leadin Old Dan, Goin to Montana to throw the Hooliann..." remember?) and all the songs from the early South. She was so very great. Remember the Christmas choruses in the balcony at Dillingham? It's as clear as day to me. American kids these days don't know the old classic songs that we have preserved in our heads. I sing them to my grandchildren, and hope that they have a music teacher with half the enthusiasm and skill (and love for children) that Ms Murray had. (What WAS her first name?)"
